Corbett House was originally the village forge and is located in Irthington, a
small, peaceful, friendly and pretty village with a shop, a school and a very
popular pub. We are just east of Carlisle near Brampton and half a mile
from the Hadrian's Wall National Trail. Our accommodation consists two
en-suite guest rooms, a double room on the ground floor and a twin bedded room
upstairs. We provide bed and breakfast and for your evening meal we would
recommend our local in the village, the
Salutation Inn - excellent food but booking at least a week ahead is strongly
advised. All this and only 10
minutes from Carlisle by car, the M6 or the A69. If you are a travelling tourist
on holiday in the UK and are motoring north to Scotland or south to England on
the M6, we are the ideal relaxing stopover.
Walking the Wall?
Hadrian's Wall and the National Trail is less than half a mile away near Newtown making
Irthington ideally placed for those walking Hadrian’s Wall.
Walking E to W or W to E ? We
are an easy days walk from the Gilsland/Greenhead area to the east or
Carlisle and the coast e.g. Port Carlisle or Burgh-by-Sands in the west. Bowness on Solway is possible in one day for experienced walkers
only!

The
market town of Brampton, the nearest railway station, is 3 miles away and has a
large antiques centre. Worth a browse and maybe a haggle if you see something
you can’t resist. The Roman sites at Birdoswald and Gilsland or the Scottish
Borders are easily accessible. Carlisle is well worth a visit and the award winning Tullie House Museum
and Art Gallery will provide you with a lively introduction to the city, the
Border country and the Roman occupation.
